Easiest way at the start is to capture a whole lot of slaves you don't need and find the ones with unspent attribute points. Take them out of jail so you can access their 'Learn Points' and convert them to upgrade points. Then you can dump them on the market or see if any of them qualify for easy custom requests for more upgrade points.
