Have some specialized slaves in Bodyguard and Assassins. Remember that you can use gold to teach your slaves moves that you've learned. Aimed strike and Heavy strike err something like that works fine and dandy, heal spell is also nice but it'll tax your mana, Barrier can also help someone fragile alive or just generally increase your longevity in battle. Remember that high speed is very helpful Cats, Wolves, Seraphims and Dragonkins are good combattants that you should aim for getting, though getting Seraphs and Dragonkins are hard to "acquire" they'll make your life so much easier in fights (I don't remember but Sebastian may be able to get them, sometimes they're in Umbra's Slave market. You can very rarely find them in Bandit encampments in the marsh as captured people *The largest one)

Well if you want to you can use cheat engine to freeze/lock your health value.
