Upgrade points are very easy to get. There's no reason to bother with the slave guild at all for them. Just go out and capture a bunch of slaves (the creatures in the Sea make a great choice), drop them into your mansion, strip them of their free attribute points by converting them to mansion upgrade points, then go sell them right away to the slaver guild. Dozens of upgrade points and thousands of gold without bothering with the details of quests or developing obedience.
